Benefits of Connectivity

We identify four categories of ecosystem connectivity and corresponding ecosystem services for each in Butler et al. 2021 Landscape Ecology. We then apply these concepts as, in Hardy et al. (2022) we outline and demonstrate the application of a framework aimed at helping urban planners and natural resource managers integrate protection of biodiversity and environmental functions with the many conflicting demands for budgets and space. Our framework provides tools and processes for identifying and prioritizing land-use decisions that support ecosystem connectivity in balance with regional, city and community level needs. You can link to the Connectivity Benefits Framework tools HERE – the tool requires Jupyter Notebook (which is free to download and you may already have as it comes bundled with software packages like ArcGIS Pro).
